The decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe V. Wade in 2022 motivated me to create this quilt and explore ideas of comfort and protection.  Quilts supply warmth, coziness, mark important life events, and create community. Cold Comfort Quilt (Trigger States) challenges its practical use while referencing traditional construction. Each quilt block is a hand-cut design of the initials in a radial design of the 13 states who have trigger laws regarding abortion. These states either have already or will soon eliminate 50 years of a woman’s right to control her reproductive health.
